Chas Hern Racing

High low and upside down weekend for Chas

With less that 1 second separating the front row it was going to be good racing all weekend. A stand out performance also came from Adam Christie a local to Mallala who is not able to do the whole series this year. Adam took his [Coast Yamaha] Yamaha R6 with in .100 of a second behind Chas into 2ND position on the starting grid, Giving Yamaha the top 2 spots.

In race 1 it was a battle of the R6's with Chas taking the early lead followed by Adam, into turn 3 Adam out braked Chas and took the lead. This Yamaha duo continued to pull away from the rest of the field and battled between them selfs. On lap 3 Chas got good drive on Christie and passed Christie up the inside into turn 7. Chas then began to pull a lead. The next lap was the fastest all weekend in Super Stock with Chas going .200 off the outright lap record with a 1.11.8. Over the finish line it was Chas with Christie 2.5 seconds behind and Henry third.

Later it was found that Chas's Yamaha had an illegal device mounted on it that made no difference to his performance and could not possibly have helped him in any way achieve the victory. Another rider in the race made mention of the Lap timer to a marshal and Chas could be suspended from the race result.

"We worked really hard to get the right set up for this weekend" commented Chas after the race. "Honestly the Lap timer beacon was in the tool box and it was only once the race had ended that I looked at it. "We came to Mallala the weekend after Winton in order to get my Yamaha dialed in and if we new a lap timer was illegal it would have not been on the bike".

In race 2 the lap timer was off and Chas was out to prove it would make no difference to his result. But when the light went out Brayden Carr was up the inside and side by side with Chas, as the pair entered turn 1 Carr had the line and Chas had to pick up the R6 and let Carr through. As it seemed to Chas Carr had entered a little hot and Chas tried to drive back up the inside. Chas got on the gas a little hot and spun the back wheel causing him to be flung over the high side of the R6 and down the track. Before the R6 had stopped barrel rolling down the track Chas was up and after his bike. As he picked it up off the ripple strip at turn 2 he noticed that all levers and foot pegs were still intact but the bank angle sensor had immobilized the R6 from starting, putting him out of the race, he managed to push it back to the pits. The race is on now to have it fixed before race 3, all hands were on deck in the CH Racing shed.

In race 3 Chas was fueled up with pain killers and wanted the R6 back on the podium before the day ends. As the light went out Carr again got a fantastic start and drove up the inside of Chas, as they went through turn 2 it was Carr Chas and Henry. Into turn 3 Henry tried to ride around the inside of Chas put it didn't' stick. On lap 3 into turn 5 Henry out braked Chas putting #24 back to 3RD, but into turn 7 Chas was back up the inside under brakes. As they came through turn 9 the Yellow flag was out and as they crossed the start/finish line it was being waved, Chas sat up and backed off, as he did Henry went screaming past on the outside. On Lap 4 Tim Cowie tried to get up the inside of Chas into turn 2, but as Chas closed the door Cowie had no were to go but into Chas and too run off the track, Chas went back down to 4TH and Cowie to 11TH. With the leaders pulling away Chas had to dig deep to rejoin the battle with the top 3 riders, and on the next lap he passed fellow Victorian Craig Nicholson back for 3RD. Henry had also passed Carr for the lead but with Chas knowing the rules Henry would be penalized for passing under a yellow [2 races in a row now] With 2 laps to go Chas was right on the back of Carr  and got good drive out of turn 6 passing Carr down the inside of turn 7. Chas then pulled the fastest lap of the race and pulled a slight gap on Carr before the finish to take 2ND.

"At round 2&3 of the Series our team showed that we have now got the set up and speed to win Championship. It's our first year of road racing and every race meeting we are learning more about rules and also bike set up" said Chas after the final race.
